The Real McCoy's : Kobe HQ
Back in October I made the trip to the Kansai region of Japan to meet up with Kento Tsujimoto, son of Hitoshi Tsujimoto, of The Real McCoy's from Kobe, Japan.
The Real McCoy's is a Japanese brand focused on the highest quality reproduction of vintage military, workwear and sportswear. Last week's visit to the HQ helped me to truly understand the level of dedication to vintage reproduction and the history and heritage behind their products and also gave me an insight into the workmanship behind the brand.
The HQ is situated in pre WWII dockside warehouses in the Port Of Kobe which was once Japan's busiest port and crucial to Japan's trade involvement with the Western world.
As you browse through the photos you will notice an ongoing theme, the Tsujimoto's, much like the rest of Japan are collectors and hobbyist's.
Vintage clothing, car's, motorcycles, cameras, audio & musical equipment, furniture, surfboards are seen throughout the HQ which spans over 3 warehouses.
One of the buildings houses a vintage camera collection and repair workshop, mostly just for the sake of restoring camera's to their former glory and if they can't find the parts they make them. There is an archive of deadstock film and vintage photo processing & reproduction equipment as the McCoy's team are sometimes asked by government institutions to reproduce photos from as far back as the 1920's and are, not surprisingly, one of the few team's capable of doing so around the world.
Perhaps the most exotic section of the HQ is Hitoshi's listening room decked out with vintage designer furniture and hi-fi audio equipment.
Most importantly I was able to get an insight into the level of dedication that goes into every garment from The Real McCoy's and look forward to passing on that knowledge to customers interested in learning more about the brand.
Every single element from extensive research to design, materials, hardware, thread, buttons and zips has been carefully considered, designed and reproduced in Japan for The Real McCoy's.
Thanks to Kento, Hitoshi and The Real McCoy's team for having me and giving an impressive and informative insight into the brand.
